Nittaku Fastarc G-1, C-1 or S-1 – which rubber suits your game?

The Nittaku Fastarc series is designed for offensive players who rely on topspin and speed but prefer different levels of feedback and feel on ball contact.

The main difference between Fastarc G-1, C-1 and S-1 is therefore not simply a matter of “more or less speed”. What really matters is how directly the rubber responds, how much catapult it provides and how much of the acceleration you want to generate yourself.

Once you know what you prefer, choosing the right rubber becomes much easier.

Fastarc G-1 – if you want to generate your own speed and spin

Do you play your topspins actively and want to feel exactly what happens at ball contact? Then the Fastarc G-1 is the right choice. It feels noticeably more direct than the C-1 or S-1.

Its harder sponge and relatively low catapult effect keep the rubber stable and predictable even on powerful strokes. The grippy topsheet helps you generate plenty of spin on topspins, while the higher trajectory can provide additional safety when opening against backspin.

In practical terms: the G-1 does relatively little on its own. It feels very controlled and allows for precise placement. The more actively you play, the more you can take advantage of its stability and precision.

The G-1 suits you if you:

• actively accelerate your topspins
• prefer a direct and clearly defined ball contact
• are looking for a reliable rubber with little built-in catapult
• want a stable feel on fast topspins
• prefer to generate spin yourself rather than relying heavily on the rubber’s catapult effect

The G-1 is probably not for you if you:

• prefer a noticeably softer feel
• want to generate speed easily with relatively little physical effort

If many modern offensive rubbers feel too lively or too unpredictable to you, the G-1 is particularly worth considering within the Fastarc series.

Fastarc C-1 – if you want to combine direct feedback with additional support

In terms of playing characteristics, the Fastarc C-1 sits between the G-1 and S-1.

Its slightly softer sponge gives it a more elastic feel than the G-1 and provides more assistance with acceleration. It also has a little more catapult than the G-1. This means you do not have to put the same amount of physical effort into every shot, while still retaining relatively clear feedback on ball contact. Put simply: the C-1 requires a little less effort from you, but in return you have to accept slightly less directness.

Especially on topspins, counters and quick transitions, this can feel more comfortable if the G-1 is a little too hard for you.

The C-1 suits you if you:

• play an offensive game based on topspin and counter-attacking
• want the rubber to give you a little more help with acceleration
• like the basic idea of the G-1 but prefer a softer feel
• are looking for a versatile offensive rubber for different playing situations

The C-1 is probably not for you if you:

• want a very direct rubber with as little catapult as possible
• need particularly high stability on powerful shots

The C-1 is therefore particularly suitable for players who want to apply offensive pressure while appreciating a little extra support from the rubber.

Fastarc S-1 – if you want more catapult and a softer feel

Of the three rubbers, the Fastarc S-1 offers the most dynamic playing feel.

Its softer impact feel and stronger catapult effect mean that the ball accelerates well even with less physical effort. This can be particularly comfortable if you play your topspins with a softer touch, take the ball early or simply do not want to put maximum physical effort into every stroke. In other words, it helps you save some energy.

Close to the table, the S-1 therefore feels livelier than the G-1 and C-1. At the same time, more built-in dynamics also means that the rubber feels less calm during fast rallies and requires cleaner technique. It is not quite as predictable as the G-1.

The S-1 suits you if you:

• like a clearly noticeable catapult effect
• want to generate speed more easily
• want additional support with acceleration
• prefer a softer and livelier playing feel
• play your topspins more through touch and dynamics

The S-1 is probably not for you if you:

• want as little catapult as possible
• prefer a very direct ball contact
• mainly want stability and composure at high speed

Fastarc G-1, C-1 or S-1? How to choose

Do you play actively, generate your own speed and want a direct, stable and highly controllable rubber?
Then the Fastarc G-1 is likely to suit your game best.

Do you want a little more support without giving up clear feedback on ball contact?
Then the Fastarc C-1 is the middle ground between the G-1 and S-1.

Do you prefer a more catapult-driven feel and want to get speed from the rubber more easily?
Then the Fastarc S-1 is the best choice.

The key difference is therefore less about which Fastarc is “faster” or “better”. What matters is how much acceleration you want to generate yourself and how much assistance you want the rubber to provide.

What happened to the Fastarc P-1?

The Fastarc P-1 was discontinued some time ago and will not be available again in the future. If you enjoyed playing with this rubber, take a look at the Hammond Z2. It is slightly faster, but its playing characteristics are quite similar to those of the Fastarc P-1.
