Game Features
Blade – Nittaku VIOLONCELLO
If you often feel unsure when defending against fast topspins because the ball bounces away too quickly and unpredictably, you need a blade that brings a little more stability to your game. Otherwise, you’ll unconsciously become too cautious and end up missing too many opportunities.
The VIOLONCELLO is designed specifically for this kind of controlled defensive play. It provides longer ball contact and clear feedback from the point of contact. This allows for more controlled ball handling on defence, especially when dealing with backspin shots from mid-range or long range.
At the same time, the blade isn't designed solely for defence. It offers enough reserves to push forward or decisively attack a high ball after a successful defensive play. This makes it appealing to players who don't just want to defend but also want to join the offense themselves.
Forehand Rubber – Nittaku BLASTAC
Modern defenders need a rubber on their forehand that serves two purposes: It should remain controllable during defensive play, but also generate enough power at the right moment to launch their own attacks.
The BLASTAC complements the VIOLONCELLO's controlled feel very well. When you get the chance to hit your first topspin shot after several slice shots, this rubber helps you hit the ball with spin and speed without losing control.
The BLASTAC is particularly useful for players who don't just use their forehand as a safety shot, but want to set up or finish points strategically.
Backhand Rubber – Nittaku MORISTO SP
On the backhand, the MORISTO SP generates a different kind of spin than a classic offensive rubber or a long-pimpled rubber. As a short-pimpled rubber, it is well-suited for direct blocks, flat returns, and fast counterattacks at the table.
This is especially helpful when your opponent plays the ball a little too cautiously or too high after your defence. Instead of just returning the ball safely, you can take the initiative with your backhand and change the pace. The ball’s trajectory is often flatter and more direct, giving your opponent less time to prepare for their next move.
The MORISTO SP makes your backhand more versatile: You can block confidently, place the ball in awkward spots, slow down the pace, or suddenly accelerate. It’s precisely these variations that are important for many modern defensive players, because they want to remain unpredictable. It’s no coincidence that Mima Ito plays the Moristo SP very successfully on her backhand.
Who is this blade deck combination suitable for?
This bundle is ideal for players who want to take a proactive approach to their defensive play. If you like to work with spin, depth, and placement but don't want to just wait for your opponent to make mistakes, this combination will fit well with your style of play.
It’s particularly useful for modern defensive players who want to defend confidently from a distance but also block, counterattack, or initiate plays at the table. blade gives you control and feedback, BLASTAC supports active forehand attacks, and MORISTO SP offers additional options on the backhand for changing the pace and executing direct shots.
Even if you've been playing with traditional defensive equipment so far and sometimes find yourself lacking offensive options, this combination could be worth trying—especially if you want to use your backhand more actively.
Who is this bundle not really suitable for?
If your game consists almost exclusively of fast topspins, counter-topspins, and direct offensive play, you’ll find the VIOLONCELLO’s base speed too slow. In that case, a faster offensive blade would be a better fit.
Even for traditional defensive players who deliberately seek the strong disruptive effect of long pimples on their backhand, this bundle isn't the most obvious choice. The MORISTO SP plays more directly and aggressively, but doesn't produce the same effect as long pimples.
For beginners, this combination is also of limited use. Short pimples require a good feel for racket angle, timing, and proper technique. If these fundamentals are still shaky, a more traditional setup may be easier to control at first.
What sponge thickness should I choose?
The thickness of the sponge significantly affects how direct, fast, and controllable a rubber is to play with. A thicker sponge provides more speed and dynamism, but also requires more precise timing. A thinner sponge usually offers more control and makes it easier to place the ball precisely.
Recommendation for the forehand with BLASTAC:
The Blastac offers extremely controlled and reliable play across all sponge thicknesses. So if you're not a complete beginner and want to generate as much power as possible with your forehand, you should try it in 2.0 mm.
If you want to play it safe, you can choose a thinner sponge.
Recommendation for the backhand with MORISTO SP:
If you want to actively block, counterattack, and react quickly with your backhand, 2.0 mm is a good choice. Your backhand will become more dynamic and direct.
If you focus more on control, placement, and smooth changes in pace, 1.8 mm is often the better choice.
Conclusion
This equipment recommendation is intended for modern defensive players who don't define their game solely by playing it safe. It supports controlled defensive play, but at the same time gives you the opportunity to take the initiative with both your forehand and backhand.
If you want to set up your opponent with underslices, placement, and changes in pace—and then consistently capitalize on your own opportunities—this combination is a great fit for you.
