Nittaku GYO-EN – an offensive table tennis blade with a very direct feel for the ball and a flat ball trajectory
If you're looking for an offensive blade with a crisp, somewhat firm ball feel and a low, linear flight path, the GYO-EN is the more direct option in the Irodori series. The KVC3 fiber is located directly beneath the Koto face veneer, resulting in a firmer feel upon ball contact than with the SO-TEN.
The GYO-EN program is right for you if you …
- you prefer a firm and direct touch.
- you're looking for a low ball flight.
- You want the speed response to be as linear as possible.
The GYO-EN program probably isn't the right fit for you if you …
- you prefer a softer touch.
- you want a medium to high ball flight.
Game Characteristics - Nittaku Gyo-En
On the GYO-EN, the KVC3 fiber is located on the outside, directly beneath the Koto top veneer. As a result, the fiber has a harder feel than the softer SO-TEN.
It plays relatively stiff and linear, with a very distinct feel. The flight path remains very flat.
The design thus differs significantly from the SO-TEN, in which the string is on the inside and Limba provides a softer feel. In addition, the GYO-EN is slightly lighter, weighing about 82g.
Who is the GYO-EN suitable for?
The GYO-EN is particularly appealing to offensive players who prefer direct ball contact and tend to feel uncomfortable with a softer blade .
If you're specifically looking for a low flight path and linear speed characteristics, the GYO-EN clearly meets these requirements better than the SO-TEN.
Who is this not really for?
If a hard hit feels too direct to you, or if you prefer a slightly higher trajectory, the SO-TEN from the Irodori series is probably the better choice.
Conclusion
The GYO-EN is a good choice if you know for sure that you want a firm, direct feel and a low, linear ball flight.
